JAY PEAK RESORT
What is happening here is amazing!
I have a special feeling for Jay Peak and everything that is happening here. The first time I laid my eyes on the course was the end of April in 2008. I met Jaime Stenger and he gave me a tour. There was still plenty of snow on the course but the views and layout were breathtaking. After playing it for the first time I wanted to become a part of their team.
The course was designed by Graham Cooke (Steve and Graham Cooke pictured left). I've played many of his courses and sincerely believe Jay Peak is one of his best. The way he presents the course from each tee box will make the weak squirm. Bunkers take the eyes off of the views and the greens break every which way but the way you think. After playing it a few times you'll start to see his forgiveness and begin to play some good golf. Par-5's are reachable and fairways are wide.
One thing I've learned up here is the growing season is short. Condition wise, the course is top in the state. As time lets the course mature, this course will be one of the best in the East.
The reason for all of the excitement in Jay is because of the huge project that is underway. The leader of this magnificent vision is Bill Stenger. Words can't describe it, you've got to see it.
Hotel 1 is underway and scheduled for completion in February 2010. Next June they will be tearing down the current hotel and commence Hotel 2. Hotel 2 will feature a 30,000 square foot in-door water park and bowling alley. The club house and ice arena will break ground this month (July 2009). The golf staff is excited about their upcoming facility that is scheduled for completion in June 2010.
Those who know me are aware of my high levels of optimism. No optimism needed here, what is unfolding is unbelievable!
